Aston Martin Owners Club - Oxfordshire
Product Used: Traditional
Colour: Antique
Description:
One of the foremost car owners' clubs in the world has refurbished a 14th Century tithe barn and has chosen tiles from the UK's most distinguished tile maker - Keymer - to provide the perfect finish.
The Grade II listed barn, home of the Aston Martin Owners' Club, is considered to be one of the most important remaining structures of its type in the country and a sensitive approach to its restoration was paramount.
Architects, architecture plb, specified 18,000 Traditional Antique hand made clay tiles from Keymer, the oldest established maker of tiles in the UK and one of the last remaining genuine hand makers still producing tiles.
Chosen for their unique hand made appearance, which cannot be replicated by machine, Keymer tiles proved to be sympathetic to the building's surrounding and like Aston Martin, they have a distinguished heritage.
Roofing contractors Shire Roofing of Wallingford, Oxford stripped the existing roof before mixing the new hand made tiles, which made up 50% of the total roof, with the existing older hand made tiles as well as some Victorian machine made tiles, added when the barn was last refurbished.
The motto of Aston Martin is individuality, performance, timeless engineering and commitment to people, echoed by every genuine hand made Keymer tile.
A genuine hand made clay tile is unique, unlike uniform machine made or hand crafted tiles. They are truly created by hand and offer variations in colour, texture and shape to produce an individual, timeless product that will also become more impressive with age.
Now completed, the two-storey barn in Drayton St Leonard, will house the Aston Martin Owners' Club together with a museum and archive for The Aston Martin Heritage Trust.
