Hampton Court
Product Used: Traditional
Colour: Wealden Red
Description:
For the first new building to be constructed within Hampton Court Palace for more than a century, there was only one tile maker that could give the project a sublime, traditional finish.
Keymer Tiles, the UK's oldest and most prolific manufacturer of genuine hand made clay tiles, supplied nearly 16,000 products from its acclaimed Traditional Wealden Red plain tile range to complement the sympathetic design of the £2.4m new visitor's centre.
A single storey extension, the building contains a large learning space for schools and a welcome area. Seamlessly combining the old with the new, the site features both a modern sliding window wall and a shallow hipped roof.
To help the extension's roof blend in with existing architecture at the historic Surrey site, architects Feilden Clegg Bradley knew Keymer would be able to deliver the ideal hand made tiling solution. The two companies had worked closely together before on a number of high profile refurbishment projects at Hampton Court.
Crafted from the company's own Wealden clay, the Traditional Wealden Red tiles used at Hampton Court have a natural, warm lustre that is entirely in keeping with the world famous historical charm of the palace.
Keymer has been producing hand made tiles for over four centuries, creating ranges with subtle variations in colour, texture and shapes that simply cannot be replicated with machine products.
Like all Keymer tiles, the Traditional range of plain hand made clay tiles is manufactured under a Quality Assured system and comes in a range of colours - Antique, Elizabethan and Wealden Red - backed with a full range of matching fittings.
