Description:

Echoing outbuildings of the late nineteenth century - where intricate detailing and mixed materials were used to decorative effect - Keymer's handmade traditional clay tiles have contributed significantly to the overall looks and prestige of Park Priory Bedroom Annexe in Coventry.

75m2 of Keymer's Wealden Red hand made clay tiles from the Traditional range - both plain and arrowhead - have been vertically tiled above entrance archways and in other key locations. The building is an extension to Coombe Abbey Hotel, one of No Ordinary Hotel's most unique venues.

Main contractors Kingerlee Ltd constructed the building, comprising 39 ensuite bedrooms over two floors, in just 17 months. Arranged to form a new internal courtyard, Park Priory Bedroom Annexe takes the Hotel's overall capacity up to 119 bedrooms. The annexe features a number of Grand Feature rooms with a further mezzanine level in the roof offering views over the setting's stunning country park.

Designed by Coventry based architects, idpartnership, to reflect the arts and craft tradition, the bedroom annexe is situated in a highly sensitive location. Developed in consultation with English Heritage and the local Conservation Officer, Park Priory sits close to the Grade I listed Coombe Abbey building, originally a 12th century Cistercian Abbey, as well as several Grade II listed outbuildings.

The Conservation Officer suggested the use of Keymer's genuine hand made tiles, recognising their successful application on a number of listed buildings. Each of the tiles used were genuinely hand made by Keymer using Wealden clay dug from its own pits. A tile that looks as good today as it did over 400 years ago, when it was first made, nothing provides greater aesthetics than the prestigious Traditional tile range.
