FAQs
How many tiles are there to the square metre?
There are 60 on the main roof at a minimum gauge of 100mm and 53 to the square metre on verticle tiling at 114mm gauge. We also make Peg tiles where 70 tiles per square metre are required.
What is your traditional colour range?
We have three colours, Wealden Red, Antique and Elizabethan. All our tiles are available in these colours and in addition we have County Peg tiles available only in our colour called "weathered" which is a base colour Antique, with the random addition of maganese to give the tiles a pre weathered appearance.
What is the minimum pitch of Keymer tiles?
Our minimum pitch of 40o, is in compliance with BS 5534 Slating and Tiling. There is often a requirement for tiles to be laid at pitches lower than this, and if special additional precautions are taken, then we would be happy for our tiles to be laid down to a minimum pitch of 35o. We would wish to discuss individual cases, before giving our approval to this action.
How much do Keymer tiles weigh?
Our standard 265mm x 165mm tiles weighs 76.2 kilos per square metre when laid to its maximum gauge of 100mm or 1270 kilos per 1000 tiles.

Can we mix the colours of your tiles?
Yes the tiler on site can do it, or for a small additional charge we can pre mix here at the works into any percentage of mix that you specify.
How do you drill holes in Keymer tiles?
With extreme difficulty. Where rain water down pipes need fixing. By far the best solution is to provide wood fixing blocks for the attachment of pipe brackets, prior to the fixing of the tiles, ideally these blocks should be covered with lead and protrude just beyond the face of the tiling.
Do Keymer Tiles conform to British Standards?
Keymer Tiles conform to the standards in all aspects except that the Traditional tiles, made in the centuries old method, may display variations outside of the standard dimensions. Surface marks are also a feature on true hand made tiles.
